One thing I realised over the last few months was that, well over a decade ago, I'd sealed myself off on a romantic level until recently.

During a quiet moment yesterday, I realised I'd done it on smaller levels as well. I also realised, in that quiet moment, that the act of sealing off was very similar to my usual acts of compartmentalisation.

That shouldn't have been a surprise, but it was.
